About Us

WHO WE ARE:

The Teaching Assistant Union (TAU) at Western Michigan University is a state recognized labor union with collective bargaining rights currently representing over 500 graduate students. The TAU is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers at the state and national level, as well as the AFL-CIO as an affiliate locally in the AFL-CIO South Center Labor Council.

WHAT WE DO:

The Teaching Assistant Union represents the interests and goals of the graduate student body. Our dedicated team of members, executive board, and department stewards work to serve as the voice of all teaching assistants campus-wide. Additionally, our bargaining team negotiates with Western Michigan University administration for a contract that regulates pay, working conditions, and rights of graduate teaching assistants. In addition to fighting for graduate student concerns, we also protect the integrity of the contract by following the grievance procedure when the contract is violated. In summation, the Teaching Assistant Union defends and protects teaching assistant rights by ensuring fair treatment for all. We are here to fight for you!
