Since we are nearing our selected deadline for the contract agreement with the university, we are organizing a PHONE ZAP! This means we are advertising the publicly available phone number of the provost of the university and posting along with it a script to follow stating TAU’s goals and voicing support for the union’s mission.
Our goal is to put pressure on the administration and remind them that they need to take us seriously. We will make our voices heard. We refuse to settle for inadequate pay for the work we do!
Below are the script and phone number of the office that supporters can use. We ask that calling be done before Friday afternoon, which is when our (hopefully) final collective bargaining meeting will take place. Share this information with friends and family to get the word out. Tell five other people you know to call ASAP! The more people who call, the harder we are to ignore.

“Hello, my name is [name] and I am a (graduate teaching assistant / community member in support of graduate teaching assistants) at Western Michigan University.
I am calling to encourage the provost to give graduate teaching assistants a raise. GTAs are an integral part of the university experience and generate over 20 million dollars in tuition value for Western.
However, they are currently severely underpaid. Many GTAs are forced to skip meals, cannot afford health insurance, and skip out on basic necessities so they can cover rent and prioritize living expenses.
Western Michigan has a responsibility to fairly compensate the people they hire, especially if they want to maintain their reputation as a quality institution.
